First contact to COMPET-N (when, how etc.):
I have a bad long term memory. I think I heard about it when I first discovered DooMworld about a year ago, but I only had a vague idea of what it was. Later on I watched Quake Done Quick and Yonatan's amazing skill inspired me to take up speedrunning. So I found out more about Compet-n and started to practice.
First COMPET-N demo:
E3M4-045, quite slow compared to Adam's later demo, but at least it beat Doom Done Quick! (although they didn't use the key trick)
Favourite COMPET-N demo(s) from yourself (the one(s) that you're most proud of):
Probably E3M4-045, even though it soon got beaten, I spent four months practicing for it (I could barely play DooM when I started) so it was quite a major achievment for me.
Favourite COMPET-N demo(s) from others:
Well there the obvious ones, like Panter's full NightMare! run and Adam's full UltraViolence run. I also love all of Yonatan's stuff, since I like playing style the most (even though my own is quite different). Rini's pacifist lmp's are very good, considering just how monster packed Romero made the later episode 1 levels (when is someone going to do E1M6 pacifist? Imagine an Episode 1 Pacifist run!). Actually, every single lmp and player is great in Compet-n.
Favourite DOOM or DOOM2 map:
E3M3 - Pandemonium, I remember playing it for the first time and getting completely lost, I thought it was a massive level at the time. I'm not really a big fan of DooM 2, in fact I've never bothered to complete it.
Favourite TC/megawad:
Batman DooM is very good fun and Herian 2 has some awesome levels, especially the big cruise ship. I also like "The Sky May Be" (obscure eh?), which isn't really a TC, but it runs on the Blessed Engine so it counts anyway.
Do you like Quake?
Hmm, Quake 1 single player is a bit dull, but I always thought the speedrunning looked like fun, with all that bunnyhopping and rocket/grenade jumping! The Quake done Quick demos are fantastic and as I said, are what inspired me to start speedrunning. Quake 1 deathmatch is very good fun when played over a LAN, and after all my DooM playing I can now beat all of my friends! Internet play is good as well, but since I only have a 33.6K modem I tend to end up at the bottom of the rankings.

I've only played the Quake 2 Demo, which was a bit slow on my system, but it looked quite good. Some of the other next-gen games look great, especially Half-Life.
What do you think of DOOM now?
Its great! Its definitely a lot of fun, even if it is occasionally very frustrating.
Anything you want to add here:
I actually started Speedrunning long before I played DooM. I used to compete with my brother to see who could get the fastest time on level 1 of Sonic the Hedgehog on the Master System console. My best time was an incredible 18 seconds, which I never managed to repeat. I also competed with my brother for the time trial records on "Micro Machines 3" on the Mega Drive (or Genesis) console, but he's a natural at driving games so that was little more evenly matched.

I might try my hand at level designing soon, so watch out for me on CDROM.COM.

Compet-n is great fun! Its really nice to take part in something like this, with people joining in from all over the world. Thanks for reading, and now I'll hand you over to Adam...

... thanks :) Jonathan represents fresh young blood in COMPET-N. It's incredible that he showed up as a fully trained and skilled speedrunner with his first demo. His style is smooth and his demos are a beauty to watch (which is true to most U.K. players, interestingly they share similar styles). So far, he mostly made his mark with Ultimate DOOM speedruns and Pacifist recordings, plus the rocket jumps of MAP09 were his creations. Definately a player to look out for!
