I'm having a blast with this, it's just I'm stuck on map 7 on UV ;) But it's looking so far to be a great success and well worth all the years of wait ^_^

Thought I should point out that I've started a demopack thread on the DW demos forum.

so uh anyone know how to make prboom under linux save games properly? can't get 2.2.3 or 2.3.0 to do it at all...which is making this kinda hard to play :)

I could very well be mistaken, but I think that is taken in part from lxdoom.  also, make sure the directories exist(duh) and your user has permissions.
I know that Majorel and others use Linux ports regularly, so maybe there is a clear solution.  gl.

It might not be a Linux/version issue. If you're using the -complevel parameter, then you can't save. That's the case for the Windows version, at any rate.

i don't use -complevel, but I do have doom2 1.9 compatibility set in the config file. you can't save with anything other than prboom compatibility? that sucks hugely...

Having it set in the config file comes to the same thing.

This is from README.demos.txt in the prboom 2.2.4 zip:
PrBoom supports loading and saving games during demo recording and playback (but only for new PrBoom demos, not for older demo formats, obviously).
I don't really understand the "obviously" in that sentence. Interestingly, schepe has just made a hack of the Eternity engine which makes it possible to record Doom2.exe demos in that, and savegames seem to work fine. This is still completely experimental, but looks very promising. However, Eternity does not have a Linux version.

that says during demo recording and playback, and the "obviously" is because saving during record / playback screws up the original doom recording format. it doesn't say you can't save in complevel 1 if you're NOT recording...which is what i'm trying to do...anyone?

But it does also refuse to save when not recording. I (and others) have tried!
