I don't to sound like a fool, but why can't you guys send in prboom.exe demos? PrBoom is almost EXACTLY like the original exe, except for a details and engine tweaks.
?
?

By putting "almost" in your sentence you pretty much answered the question yourself.
Re: anyone have the 709905byte doom2.exe?
yup. prboom still isn't 100% compatible. even if it were, we still wouldn't use it; it has some features which make it an unfair advantage over doom.exe, and thus over pre-existing demos - hi-res mode, for example.

altima: you cna *see* a lot further. my favourite example - you're doing a 100/100 of a huuuuge map. you're just running for the exit, when...
<PORT SPLIT!>
on doom2.exe, the far distance of the ultra-huge room the exit is in is just a pixellated blur. you run to the exit, and hit the switch. argh! 99%!
on prboom.exe in your lovely high-res mode, you can just see that at the far end of the room is that darned imp you weren't sure if you'd left behind! you run over there and BFG it, then go back to the exit and hit the switch - 100%!
get the picture?

Aaaaahhh...
I had a feeling it was something to do with better vision (duh?) but I wasn't really entirely sure about it.
Although it's fun to WATCH demos in High-Res ;D

This is REALLY evident in Quake1/2 demos... not that you guys have even seen any of those.
Re: anyone have the 709905byte doom2.exe?
heh, I downloaded and watched about 100 quake1 demos a rainy day when I was bored. Neato stuff.
Re: anyone have the 709905byte doom2.exe?
Oh goodness.....I just checked my Doom2.exe version-turns out it's the 8-25-94 version, pirated. Looks like I need the "legal" version too...!
My e-mail:

I have wondering for some time why a lot of movies for Doom2 and massive Doom2 demos that cover not quite the whole game and such were desyncing just two seconds into map01, and I am pretty certain this is why.
Can someone send it my way?

Note that doom2.exe is available for FREE, as it is the same DOS executable included witn doom95, just copy it and rename it doom2.exe and there you have it.
