The first level of Demonized, probably, it's just huge. Also Vrack 2, and Oneweek.wad map11 (one of Erik's maps). And there's this huge level in Millennium... but perhaps I shouldn't say any more about that one  :)

In general I don't like really big maps, but the above ones are among my favorites... go figure.

I remember back in 95, my brother took 20 seconds to make this map in dck that was an oval +32000units to -32000units in length... talk about long wall errors. :)
(I know that was not what you were really asking.)
Ryback posted a good list of huge maps.

It is probably a good thing that there is a map sizelimit... without it, there would be some HUGE maps out now.
Kesler or Krause would probably have one that made Eternal Map24 look like e2m9.:o

Post by AltimaMantoid » 02.07.2002 07:20

You people want a large map? Hmm...I'll start on a nice large map for Blood Lust...just, which map should be the big one? @.@

I definitely can't think of any bigger than Vrack 2. It certainly has the longest max completion time I can think of (well, maybe some in Eternal are longer, but that demopack needs improving anyway ;>)

I'll have to look at Vrack2 sometime, since I've been playing a whole mess of pwads lately (one reason I haven't been recording anything.)

Speaking of Eternal 3, I don't think I've ever finished map30.. I just kept finding secret room after secret room until I couldn't find anymore and was stumped.  :-[

no one should ever feel forced to record, of course... I couldn't pass up the chance to prod you for some non-Compet-N  demos. :)
Massmouth is a cute little dude.  hehe

Well, I usually just play through wads with savegames like I used to, so it's more of an adventure thing than an excuse to make demos.   :)

And yeah, Massmouth is quite a strange character, and it was interesting to see some Opposing Force (half-life mission pack) monsters in there.  The Voltigore is only about as tall as the player, but he grew quite a bit for this wad.  ;D

Hey Adam, got a problem. I downloaded those zips, but when I want to play it, it quits while loading the map and writes >>> P_SpawnMapThing: Type unknow 4001 at (1568, 2464).

Any idea what's wrong ??  :'(

I think the 4001-4004 are the player5-8 spots, aren't they?
basically, now a default 'boom' advanced-port add-on.
I think doom2.exe would choke hard on Vrack2.
try MBF or Boom.... oh, and -record   ;D
btw Radeg, don't you have some unreleased AV demos to share?? ;)

It didn't seem ZDOOM compatible either because it crashed in many areas, and to that end I still haven't finished it... maybe PRBOOM will do the trick.

Opulent, I tried Boom and it worked, but it was lagging on my comp! I thought I can play any map on my comp, but I was wrong as it seems..HR or AV maps I can play w/o problems. Yeah, there are some AV demos on my Hdd, but not too many, I wanted to do some more, but i'm playing heretic atm, so later...

I'd like to see those AV demos... I don't have to post 'em, y'know. :)
Heretic? wow. actually, I shouldn't talk, I played RedneckRampage multiplayer this last weekend. :P
and a bit of Skulltag.  There really isn't a really good client/server Doom port available?  =/
guess I should be happy with what has been done.

Being able to run HR/AV doesn't mean you have enough CPU power to play all ports maps. Some maps nowadays require a nuclear power station instead of a computer ;D COECITS, latest Eaeuro, etc.

from my experience, MBF and Boom (not Prboom) render huge rooms much faster than other ports.
